The Men's Shelter

...program provides shelter and meals for homeless men several evenings a week during winter months (November through April) in the basement of the church. A paid coordinator supervises the clients and the work of the many volunteers from church and community who help run the Shelter. The program is in conjunction with the New York Partnership for the Homeless.

For twenty-seven years, the Holy Trinity Shelter Program has provided a clean bed, warm dinner, and light breakfast to many New York City homeless men during the cold winter months. The need for your involvement – giving time, energy, spirit and financial resources – has never been greater!

With your help, this outreach ministry will give homeless men a safe place to rest, nourishment, and the warm fellowship that can help them build independent lives and find and keep permanent homes and jobs with futures. Your funds support the Shelter Coordinator’s salary and other program expenses, such as DVD rentals and holiday gifts.

Financial contributions can be made out to "Holy Trinity Lutheran Church" with a notation to "Men's Shelter Program" and sent to 3 W 65th Street, New York, NY  10023.

Volunteers are also needed. There are many ways you can help. On Monday through Thursday nights volunteers are needed to sleep over at the Church, prepare and serve meals, plan menus, shop for groceries, or donate whole or partial meals. You will have reliable support from the Shelter Coordinator who spends every night here and is happy to train new volunteers and assist with the setting up the evening meal.

  • Cooks and assistants arrive by 6:30pm and usually leave by 9:00 or 9:30pm after clean up.
  • Overnight volunteers arrive between 6:30 and 9:00pm, dine and socialize with the clients, and assist with the setting up of a light breakfast for the men. Volunteers and clients are able to leave by 6:30am the following morning.
  • Shoppers bring weekly menu items on the weekend and are quickly reimbursed by the Church.

Contact the church office to volunteer or donate much-needed funds.  You’ll be glad you did!

A classical music program that was initiated at Holy Trinity's Men's Shelter and now serves the homeless throughout the NYC metro area.
