Welcome to the 49th season of Bach Vespers at Holy Trinity!

The composer of Psalm 96 bids us to “Sing to the Lord a new song!” in a hymn that paints a picture of creation rejoicing in the glory of God. The heavens, the earth, the seas, the fields all give praise and even the trees in the forest sing for joy. I invite you to join your voice to this cosmic song and let all that is within you be transformed by the beauty and splendor of music here at The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity on Central Park West.

For nearly 50 years, Holy Trinity has been a home for all those who seek to be sustained by the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and the great wealth of Lutheran composers whose texts and music still speaks profoundly to listeners today. It is remarkable how relevant the cantatas of the 17th and 18th centuries are to us in the 21st century. The themes are all too familiar in a world where uncertainty, fear, and even death are daily factors around the world. Indeed, these old songs have been made new through their timeless message of our humanity and God’s love.

Bach Vespers at Holy Trinity has something deeply powerful to offer in response: community. A community of musicians, early music lovers, and people gathered for a sacred time in a sacred space. Bach Vespers brings both friends and strangers together into community and assures us, through communal song, prayer, and human connection, that there are many reasons to sing out a new and joyous song.

Join us on Sundays at 5:00PM from October through April and experience all that this new season has to offer! With an unwavering commitment to excellence of music, word, and ritual, Holy Trinity is a home for all those who long for beauty, peace, and sacred mystery. Together, let us join hands with neighbors as we stand up to fear and uncertainty. Come and lend your voice to the greater song; that our song may be strengthened for the journey which lies ahead.
