It’s Time to Refurbish the Fourth Floor Apartment!

UPDATE – April 18, 2016

Thanks to the generous contributions of the congregation and friends of the congregation–and a kick-starter matching challenge–more than $32,000 has now been donated, allowing us to proceed with our top three priority improvements.

With your help, we can complete ALL of the important improvements that were initially designated. A new $10,000 matching challenge has been pledged to help us fund the remaining items listed below. Every dollar given by April 30th will be matched, up to $10,000.

Please consider giving so that we can welcome our new pastor with a fully renovated apartment. Now is the time to double your impact!

With gratitude and good wishes, thank you!

Original Post:

As we prepare to welcome Holy Trinity’s new pastor, the Property Committee and Congregation Council have recommended a renovation of the fourth floor apartment. Last updated 20 years ago, the apartment is showing its age after many years of use. Our goal is to match (where possible) the successful improvements made to the fifth floor apartment in 2015.

At December’s annual congregation meeting, the congregation approved a capital budget that included the authorization to spend funds for this project once these funds are raised. We are now reaching out to the congregation to raise a minimum of $30,000 to complete the essential renovations listed below. Our aim, however, is that we will raise enough money to be able to complete all six improvements during the initial renovation to avoid increased cost and inconvenience later.

Essential renovations:

  1. Renovate bathroom to match the Fifth Floor Apartment (this was identified as a priority as it cannot be done when the space is occupied)
  2. Upgrade Kitchen: new appliances (refrigerator, range, microwave and dishwasher), new countertop, and new backsplash
  3. Paint entire apartment

Optional improvements, if funds allow:

  1. Extension of laminate floor at rear of apartment to match height of existing flooring
  2. Replacement of wooden (north) window in Master Bedroom
  3. Replace doors & hardware

As a kick-starter, we are pleased to announce a matching challenge, offered anonymously by a few generous Holy Trinity members: every dollar you and other Holy Trinity members contribute by March 31, 2016, will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $10,000. That means that we have the tremendous opportunity, with $10,000 in new donations, to raise $20,000.00 by the end of March! Please contribute as you are able and as often as you can to get us to that $10,000 target and beyond!

Make checks payable to “Holy Trinity Lutheran Church” noting “Fourth Floor Apt” on the memo line. You may give your gifts in the Sunday offering or you may mail the check or money order to the church office. As an alternative, you can contribute through our secure server by clicking here and following the on-screen instructions. Please include a note that the donation is for the 4th Floor Apartment Renovation so that your gift is appropriately recorded.

If there are any questions or to discuss additional matching opportunities or joining the current matching challenge, please contact the church office.

Let us contribute our gifts to create a warm and welcoming home for our Pastor and their family. God is good and generous. Let us be the same!

With many blessings in Christ,
Kathy Yates, Suzanne Hoglund, Tim Cage, Lori Padua, Lois Rimbo and Kim Suttell

Nepal Earthquake Relief

Nepal Earthquake Relief

On April 25, 2015, a powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, in the shadow of Mount Everest. As of May 1, 2015, Lutheran World Relief is reporting more than 5,000 dead, 10,000 injured, and 2.8 million displaced. In response to this natural disaster, Lutheran World Relief has taken the following initial steps

  • LWR is currently already working in the area of the quake epicenter, Lamjung District.
  • LWR is committing an initial response of $500,000, which will support immediate needs on the ground and will likely include the distribution of locally-procured Non-Food Items and a cash transfer program so families can purchase other necessary supplies.
  • Shipping 9,240 Quilts, 1,000 Personal Care Kits and 100 water filtration units.
  • Staff from LWR’s Emergency Operations unit are arriving now to assist our Nepal staff on the ground. Additional regional team members are on standby for deployment if needed.
  • LWR has spent the initial days after the earthquake confirming the safety and security of our staff and local partners.
  • Needs assessments are underway, and coordination meetings with the Government of Nepal and other international and local organizations are happening daily.

Support for these efforts is greatly needed. Lutheran World Relief is asking for donations to be made to the Nepal Earthquake Fund. 100% of donations will go towards Earthquake relief.

Finally, please pray for all those affected by this disaster, the people of Nepal, and emergency response workers.
