House of Time – “1685: Year of Genius”
November 11, 2016 @ 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM$10 - $35
Bach Vespers resident ensemble House of Time presents “1685: Year of Genius – Works by Bach, Handel, Scarlatti.”
In the year 1685 lightning struck not twice but thrice, with the births of three of the greatest composers of the baroque era. The endless wit and invention of the Italian master’s keyboard sonatas is the perfect foil for the towering chamber music of the German giants. Featuring Handel’s “Dresden” Trio in G minor, Bach’s trio, BWV1028, for oboe d’amore and violin, and the suite for unaccompanied cello in D minor performed by the incomparable Beiliang Zhu, winner of the Leipzig Bach Competition.
House of Time is dedicated to both well-known and underperformed repertoire of the 17th through the 21st century played on period instruments. Members include Juilliard faculty and graduates as well as prize-winners of major international competitions. Using the instruments and techniques of the past to express the vivid passions in the music, House of Time has moved audiences and keeps them coming back for more. Critics have declared oboist, Gonzalo X. Ruiz, one of only a handful of truly superb baroque oboists in the world (Alte Musik Aktuell). Tatiana Daubek, violinist, is known for her expressive and personable performances. Harpsichordist, Avi Stein, one of NYCs finest, is described by the New York Times as a brilliant organ soloist and Beiliang Zhu, is described by the New Yorker as elegant, sensual and stylishly wild.
