The Social Statements
of the Evangelical Lutheran Church:

What They Are and What They Aren’t
Sunday, January 28 & February 4
12:25 – 1:25 p.m. (immediately following Mass)

What are the Social Statements of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA)? How do they inform our life together and our witness to the world?  On Sunday, January 28 and February 4, following Mass, 12:25-1:25 p.m., we will look at the various social statements of the ELCA such as abortion, caring for creation, the death penalty, human sexuality, peace, and race.  We will learn what authority such statements bear in our church.  On February 4, we will give particular attention to the “Draft Social Statement on Women and Justice,” examining how such a document is created by the ELCA and who determines what it says. What are the Social Statements of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA)?
