Pastor Wilbert S. Miller

Pastor Wilbert “Wilk” S. Miller

On Sunday, April 24th, the Congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity unanimously called the Reverend Wilbert “Wilk” S. Miller to be its next pastor, which Pastor Miller has accepted. The call follows a recommendation from the Call Committee and Congregation Council. A native of West Virginia, Pastor Miller has previouslyserved as senior Pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ardmore, PA (1995-2005), Augustana Lutheran Church, in downtown Washington, D.C. (1982-1995), and Calvary Lutheran Church in inner-city West Philadelphia (1977-1982). He is currently serving at First Lutheran Church, San Diego, where he has been pastor since 2005. Pastor Miller will begin his pastorate on July 1, 2016, and will preach and preside on Sunday, July 3.

Pastor Miller graduated from Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio, in 1973, with a B.A. in religion. He received his M. Div. degree from Yale Divinity School, New Haven, Connecticut, in 1977. He has completed his course work for a S.T.M. at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia in the area of worship, with particular interest in how the literature of Annie Dillard might inform a “liturgical posture.” Pastor Miller is married to Dagmar, a native of Germany, who is a real estate agent. The Millers have two adult sons, Caspar and Sebastian.

Please join us in welcoming Pastor Miller and Dagmar into the Holy Trinity family!

While we had services at 12:30 and 7 PM, Ash Wednesday gave us an opportunity to be a more public church by offering ashes out in our community. The photo was taken around 9 AM while Pastor Detweiler and Donald Meineke were standing out at the corner of Central Park West and 65th St. offering ashes to passersby. (more…)
