This week’s theme is God’s abundance. Whenever a small amount of food, for example, is enough to feed a crowd, that is a sign of the presence of God. So God is present in Elisha as twenty loaves of barley becomes enough for 100 people to eat and still have leftovers. Similarly, Jesus is able to feed 5000 with 5 barley loaves and 2 fish and still have leftovers. The abundance of the food is a sign of God’s activity and presence. That the little bit of food of the Eucharist satisfies our spiritual longings is a sign of the presence of God. (more…)
