Second Sunday in Lent
Sunday, March 12, 2017 – 11 o’clock in the morning
Thoughts from Pastor Miller
Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,
As we continue our Lenten journey, I pray that each of you is finding nourishment in the astonishing reflections of our members in “O Lord, Throughout These Forty Days.” How wonderful it is when all God’s children walk on this holy pilgramage, hand-in-hand.
During this Lenten season, I encourage you to:
1-Set your clock up one hour when you go to bed on Saturday evening, March 11, so you are at worship on time on Sunday morning.
2-Gather for Mass this Sunday, March 12, 11 a.m., as we are honored to welcome our special guest, the Rev. Wm. Chris Boerger, the elected Secretary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Pastor Boerger will preach and then he and Bishop Robert Rimbo will engage in a discussion, “Together We Can Do More,” in the Community Room immediately following Mass.
3-Conclude Sunday, March 12, 5 p.m., at Vespers, as we hear God’s word and are lifted by Johan Christophy Bach’s Herr, wende dich und sei mir gnadig.
4-Continue to ponder Luther’s “Small Catechism” at Wednesday Mass, 6:30 p.m. (35 minutes liturgy), as we consider The Creed.
5-Make a sacrificial offering one time or throughout Lent to the wonderful work of Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service. This gift will be over and above your regular weekly offering and will support the more than seventy years of work of LIRS in resettling refugees from countries around the world. Use a pew envelope and mark “Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service” or “LIRS:” make checks payable to “Holy Trinity Lutheran Church” with the memo line “LIRS.”
May you have a blessed Lent,
Pastor Wilbert S. Miller
