Palm Sunday/Sunday of the Passion
Sunday, April 9, 2017 – 11 o’clock in the morning
Thoughts from Pastor Miller
Dear Members and Friends of Holy Trinity,
Holy Week begins this Sunday, April 9, with Palm Sunday/ The Passion of Our Lord. I pray that you will commit yourself to a blessed Holy Week and prayerfully consider being present as often as possible as we contemplate God’s love for us through the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord.
Perhaps you have never attended all the Holy Week liturgies. I pray this will be the year! Experience the highs and lows, the defeats and victories, the wonder of Christ’s love for us amidst it all. I have a dream that one Holy Week our church will be packed to the rafters as we behold Christ’s love for us. Might this be the year?
I am thrilled to announce that, so far, you have given sacrificial offerings of $4,080 to the remarkable work of Lutheran Immigration and Refugees Services (LIRS) which works with God’s blessed wanderers throughout the world. Our original goal had been $3,000 but it quickly became apparent we would exceed that goal; our next goal, $4,000, has been exceeded as well. It is not too late to give to this astonishing ministry. (Make your check to “Holy Trinity Lutheran Church” with memo line “LIRS” or use a pew envelope, marking LIRS.)
We have also been collecting offerings of new underwear for our Holy Women’s Shelter where six to twelve women call our Community Room home from January through June. On Palm Sunday, as Jesus entered Jerusalem, people spread palm branches on the road; what we may not know is that they also spread their garments in Jesus’ honor. “Show Your Care by Bringing a Pair” is a way to honor Jesus during this Holy Week by caring for his dear sisters (Jesus said, “As you did it to one of the least of these, you did it to me.”). Please place your gift for Jesus’ dear friends in the wicker basket at the back of the church.
These are breathtaking days at Holy Trinity as we behold Christ’s wondrous love for us. Let us worship and serve in the name of the one who offered his life for us.
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Wilbert Miller
