This Week at Holy Trinity

This Week at Holy Trinity

Sixth Sunday after Pentecost – June 26, 2016
Mass at 11:00. Readings: 1 Kings 19:15-16, 19-21; Psalm 16; Galatians 5:1, 13-25; Luke 9:51-62. Pastor Laurie Anderson preaches and presides.

We have no good apart from God. That makes our Lord’s call to follow him an invitation to freedom. This is freedom to revel in the Spirit’s fruits: love, joy, peace, patience and the like. This is the path of life.

Please keep in your prayers: Ellen Benton, Cory Bricco, Charlotte Cage, Peg Faulkner, Dolores Fernandez, Maria Jacobson, Diana Langer Marcus, Lawrence Lever, Susan Sterne McCann, Marie Mutz, Jytte Palumbo, Robert Radsch, Mike Rodriguez, Thorvald Slater, and Benjamin Weiner.

HT HAPPENINGS  — from Council President Craig Wilson

June is Pride Month in the LBGTQ community, and Holy Trinity’s signature red doors will be open this Saturday from 12 pm – 5pm to offer everyone a quiet place for contemplation and prayer.  Cantor Donald Meineke will lead Evening Prayer at 5pm to honor lives lost in Orlando.  Council Member and booming bass Joe Chappell will also be leading marchers from Holy Trinity in the Pride Parade on Sunday following mass!

The Millers are on their way!   Pastor Wilk and Dagmar left San Diego this past week, driving cross-country to New York City.   Their goal: 500 miles a day. The next hurdle will be unpacking after the big move and long drive.  Pastor Miller’s ministry begins Sunday, July 3.

Here, on this corner of Central Park West, everyone is working hard to prepare for the Miller’s arrival.  Office Manager Bonnie Minger  has insured all the details are completed. Property Manager Sergiy Orlov has managed the restoration of the 4th Floor apartment the Millers will call home.  On his weekend, he painted the Pastor’s office.

On the 4th floor, the crunch to finish the renovation is on!  The craftsmen from Gaudioso Contracting LLC are working hard, six days a week, to complete the improvements financed by the generous donations of HT members.  Fortunately, the scope of work went beyond our original, conservative, aspirations.  The Fourth Floor apartment now boasts new appliances, bathrooms, countertops, additional closet space, ceiling fans and lighting (to name just a few improvements). Thanks to Jan Lindemann  who coordinated the purchase of the appliances, and Cantor Donald Meineke for pitching in to make sure kitchen details are just right.  Thank you all.

I’m also pleased to report that the Congregation Council on June 13 unanimously voted to have Stephen Hucko replace Andrew Swan, who is relocating to Mexico for work.  Steve will also assume Chairmanship of the Finance Committee.  Steve is a banker, long-time HT member who currently sits on the Bach Vesper’s Board.  We extend a heartfelt thanks to Steve and Andrew for their service.

Lastly, please mark your calendars for the 5th Annual Holy Trinity Potluck Picnic in Central Park on July 31.  This wonderful event is organized once again by Kim Suttell.  Contact Kim at ksuttell@gmail.com for any questions.  Also, please speak to Kim about hosting coffee hour after worship.  Hosts are needed and appreciated!

June is Pride month in the LGBT community.

New York City’s Pride celebrations culminate with events occurring throughout the weekend of June 24- 26. In recognition of this weekend, Holy Trinity is proud to offer several opportunities to participate.

On Saturday from 12pm to 5pm, we will host Open Doors for contemplation and prayer during the weekend’s festivities. We will have an evening prayer service to honor those lost in the recent Orlando nightclub shooting massacre and to pray for reconciliation and healing at 5pm. Please join us throughout the day as we mourn the dead, petition healing for the wounded, and pray for universal peace.

On Sunday, we are excited to march in the Pride Parade in fellowship and ecumenical solidarity with Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Meeting time and location will be announced in a separate email this weekend.

Please join us for any or all of these activities to express solidarity and love to our LGBT brothers and sisters. To volunteer or to ask questions, please contact Shannon Jones (shannonmjones@hotmail.com) or Joe Chappel (joechappel@gmail.com).

Ideas for Welcoming Pastor Miller and Dagmar
July 1 and the arrival of Pastor Miller and his wife Dagmar can’t get here soon enough!  As we eagerly await their arrival, let’s think of our best ideas for how to show them a warm welcome through the various stages of a transition. Enter suggestions in the spaces by following this link:

Also note, we understand Dagmar would love to hear about “favorite places” of “all types” in any of the boroughs. She wants to really get a “lay of the land” (e.g., where is your favorite fish store; favorite museum; favorite place to relax?”). The last question provides space where you can list the name and address of the location and we will locate it on a map that will be provided to Dagmar and Pastor Miller upon their arrival in New York.

As a service to both our newest and longtime members AND in order to welcome Pastor Miller and Dagmar to our congregation, we are excited to create a new pictorial directory.  We are working with Lifetouch Photography who will handle all aspects of the project, from shooting the photography to printing the directories. All sittings will be held at Holy Trinity from July 6-10. Please click here to sign up for a photo portrait session. A sign up sheet will also be available at church after Sunday morning services during coffee hour.

All individuals and families who sit for a portrait will receive a FREE 8″x10″ photo and a printed directory with no pressure to purchase anything.  You will have the opportunity to select from digital proofs on the day of your photo session and purchase additional portraits, if desired.
To make this directory a big success (and an invaluable resource to all of us), we need ALL of you to participate. Please make every effort to sign up for (and attend!) a session from July 6-10, however, if you are not able to attend one of these dates, please contact the office and we will look into setting a makeup date in the future. Thank you in advance for your participation!
